Andrea González Garrán is a designer and visual artist with a background in architecture. With a strong focus on experimental publishing and editorial innovation with hybrid media formats. She works with sensibilities, tools, and research topics related to the infrastructural and the contemporary landscape.
In her research, she is interested in underrepresented artefacts, from objects to architectures and infrastructures, and their ability to symbolically and materially convey narratives that have been overlooked.
When working in commissions and collaborations, she mostly develops printed publications and publishing platforms for artists and cultural institutions, crafting formats, content, and form of distribution in experimental, playful and inviting editorials.
She currently co-runs Home Cinema, an online streaming platform for art films, is a member of fanfare amsterdam, platform and design studio for cross-disciplinary collaboration and visual communication, and is a regular contributor to Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio dedicated to the arts based in Amsterdam. She hosts the bi-monthly show Curva Ras in Radio Relativa, focussing on the intersections between music and architecture.
Her 2020 film Es Imposible, No Puede Ser has been recently screened in Autocine Madrid Race, La Casa Encendida, Cineteca Matadero, Filmhuis Den Haag and Cinema Gallegiante Venice.
Recently, she has been mostly busy with Damos vueltas en la noche y somos consumidas por el fuego, a work in collaboration with Eva Geist showing in La Casa Encendida until September 18th 2022. Also designing Revista Pasarela, Bosque Real 2022 , and diving in FLUSH. She was part of the group show Todo lo que era sólido se desvanece en el aire, on view until February 2022 in Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid. Last summer, in festival Domingo, at La Casa Encendida, she gave a performative lecture about A film without a film. She is still swimming with Las Swimmers .With Elif Özbay, she was an artist in residence in Iban oscuro por entre las sombras. She designed the book for Trémula and spent two years in Sandberg Instituut (2018-2020) searching for vampires with Es Imposible, No Puede Ser, facilitating PUB and building up Alone Together. Sometimes she hanged bread. She provoked an accident in Centro Centro, Madrid on October 25th, 2019. She developed the visual identity of Bosque Real 2019. In 2017 she organized Parkineo in Matadero Madrid together with Paula García–Masedo and Lorenzo García Andrade. She was radio host, creative director and content producer on the experimental podcast radio station RACA, which slides the limits between architecture and contemporary culture. Within RACA she developed the first international podcast congress: MAGIC in collaboration with Lorenzo García – Andrade and published Magical Thinking together with Futuro Studio. RACA was presented in “Superhumanity” at Fundación Telefónica within the context of the VI Istambul Biennial, featured in “Celebración” edited by Programa sin Créditos. "Most People Guard and Keep", a project in collaboration with the performing arts online platform Teatrón was part of “Gelatina” in La Casa Encendida, Madrid.
She often collaborates with Juanito Jones in projects involving creative consulting for brands, experimental education and design. They have been guest tutors of Making Futures School and developed the graphic design and museography of Frecuencia Singular Plural in Centro Centro, Madrid. With Paula García–Masedo, she was an artist in residence of La Colmena in 2018, working on "Can interfere with breathing and speaking". They covered and uncovered Twin Gallery in Gotelé for their first solo show in 2017. In summer 2017, she went on the search of a hundred sports pavilions that had been replicated in Castilla La Mancha, in the project En Castilla la Mancha hay más de cien polideportivos iguales with Íñigo Barrón. This project has been featured in several media, and presented at the Injuve Awards exhibition.
Also seen before as editor in chief, editorial designer and content manager in 255, experimental architecture publication. Editorial and visual identity designer in DPA Prints. Member of the communication team and designer in Teatro Pradillo. Editorial and visual identity designer for the exhibition En los Cantos Nos Diluimos at Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid. Editorial designer in The Way Things Go, a curatorial project by Paula García–Masedo presented at Monoambiente, Buenos Aires and Sociología Ordinaria at Medialab Prado, Madrid. Levantinismo: Edificio España Ciudad de Vacaciones, her final thesis in Architecture and research on pleasure architectures, has been published in AD, Plataforma Arquitectura amongst others and was featured in the Spanish pavilion in the VI Venice Architecture Biennale. Levantinistic Beats, its Spin off in collaboration with Juanito Jones, activated SAUNA CLOUD, a project by Carlos Monleón in Matadero Madrid. She started this research in 2014 during her residency in Matadero Madrid together with Jonás Murias with Proyecto Vacaciones.
She has written texts for PARK The Magazine, Zelda, Venice Architecture Biennale, Yorokobu, Pasajes Arquitectura y Crítica, Revista Arquitectura COAM, Teatrón, Programa sin créditos, amongst others.
She has been teaching regularly in EtsaMadrid, and has been guest speaker or tutor in Gerrit Rietveld Academie, University of Alicante, University of Alcala, Sandberg Instituut, University of Nebraska Lincoln, IEDMadrid, AA London, Universidad San Pablo Ceu.
