Currently, Andrea is engaged in research exploring an historical failed plan for a transnational infrastructure connecting The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, and France. Her investigation delves into the project's relationship with the geopolitical developments of Europe and its connections to colonialism from the 1600s to our era. This project has been awarded the Miquel Casablancas art prize in 2023.
Now and then, she designs books and visual identities for artists and cultural institutions. For instance, Trémula for Javi Cruz at CA2M, Sorbito for Ainhoa Hernández Escudero, or Bosque Real. Aditionally, she collaborates with Juanito Jones providing creative consulting services for brands.
Andrea González Garrán is involved in several artistic platforms:
Home Cinema, a platform dedicated to screening and streaming art films. In this role, she actively curates film programs and organises site-specific screenings, with the current research focus of Home Cinema revolving around Dreams.
She is an editor at Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio platform dedicated to the arts. Within this capacity, she regularly hosts shows that center around contemporary visual arts, collaborating with organisations such as Sonic Acts, Rozenstraat, and the Rietveld Academy.
As a member of fanfare, she contributes to curating and facilitating a public program that critically explores communication and its intersections with design, visual arts and architecture. Lately, she has been actively working in Broken Channels.
She co-hosts the radio show Vampires Can't Have Anything, on vampires in contemporary visual culture, at Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, and Curva Ras, drifting on limits between music and architecture in Radio Relativa.
She has written texts for PARK The Magazine, Zelda, Venice Architecture Biennale, Yorokobu, Pasajes Arquitectura y Crítica, Revista Arquitectura COAM, Fundación Arquia, Teatrón, Programa sin créditos, among others.
She has been teaching regularly at EtsaMadrid, and has been a guest tutor at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, University of Alicante, University of Alcalá, Sandberg Instituut, University of Nebraska Lincoln, IEDMadrid, AA London, Universidad San Pablo Ceu.
Recently, Andrea was a resident researcher at Radio Relativa in 2023, where she focussed on studying the circular urban highway M-30. Her research examines the highway's interplay with the politics and urban development of Madrid over the past century.
Andrea González Garrán´s 2020 film Es Imposible No Puede Ser has been recently screened in Autocine Madrid Race, La Casa Encendida, Cineteca Matadero, Filmhuis Den Haag and Cinema Gallegiante in Venice.
She was part of Ultradependent Public School at Bak, Utrecht on April 2023.
During 2022, she was busy with Damos vueltas en la noche y somos consumidas por el fuego, a work in collaboration with Eva Geist showing in La Casa Encendida until September 18th, 2022. Also designing Revista Pasarela, Bosque Real 2022 , and diving into FLUSH. She was part of the group show Todo lo que era sólido se desvanece en el aire, on view until February 2022 at Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid.
On summer 2021 she presented A film without a film in festival Domingo, at La Casa Encendida, Madrid. With Elif Özbay, she was an artist in residence for Iban oscuro por entre las sombras. She designed the book Trémula for Javi Cruz´s solo show at CA2M.
She spent two years at the Sandberg Instituut (2018-2020) searching for vampires, facilitating PUB and building Alone Together. Sometimes she made bread.
Some time ago, she provoked an accident at Centro Centro, Madrid. She developed the visual identity of Bosque Real 2019. She organized Parkineo at Matadero Madrid together with Paula García–Masedo and Lorenzo García Andrade.
She was radio host, creative director and content producer on the experimental podcast radio station RACA, which blurs the limits between architecture and contemporary culture. Within RACA she developed the first international podcast congress: MAGIC, in collaboration with Lorenzo García – Andrade, and published the book Magical Thinking together with Futuro Studio. RACA was presented in Superhumanity at Fundación Telefónica within the context of the VI Istambul Biennial, and featured in Celebración edited by Programa sin Créditos. Most People Guard and Keep, a project in collaboration with the performing arts online platform Teatrón was part of Gelatina, at La Casa Encendida, Madrid.
With Paula García–Masedo, she was an artist in residence of La Colmena in 2018, working on Can interfere with Breathing and Speaking. They covered and uncovered Twin Gallery in Gotelé for their first solo show in 2017.
In summer 2017, she went on the search of a hundred sports pavilions that had been replicated in Castilla La Mancha, in the project En Castilla la Mancha hay más de cien polideportivos iguales with Íñigo Barrón. This project has been featured in several media, and presented at the Injuve Awards exhibition.
She was an as editor in chief, editorial designer and content manager in 255, experimental architecture publication. Editorial and visual identity designer in DPA Prints. Member of the communication team and designer in Teatro Pradillo. Editorial and visual identity designer for the exhibition En los cantos nos diluimos at Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid. Editorial designer in The Way Things Go, a curatorial project by Paula García–Masedo presented at Monoambiente, Buenos Aires and Sociología Ordinaria, at Medialab Prado, Madrid.
Levantinismo: Edificio España Ciudad de Vacaciones, her final thesis project in Architecture, has been published in AD, Plataforma Arquitectura, among others, and was featured in the Spanish pavilion at the VI Venice Architecture Biennale. Levantinistic Beats, its spin-off in collaboration with Juanito Jones, activated SAUNA CLOUD, a project by Carlos Monleón at Matadero Madrid. She started this research in 2014 during her residency Proyecto Vacaciones at Matadero Madrid together with Jonás de Murias.
